What do I talk about in therapy

Hi, I’m Ilia Jones, licensed professional counselor in Suwanee, Georgia, and I’m here to answer your questions about what to do if you can’t think of what to talk about during therapy. You can always talk about what you’ve been doing, what you’ve been thinking, and what you’ve been feeling in between our sessions. I will ask you a few questions and help guide the conversation, but it is really up to you to bring in some situations that happened during the week that have stressed you out.

If there are situations that have caused you to have negative thoughts or negative feelings, you can write those down during the week or you can just remember them and tell me about them when you’re in the session. I also want you to think about what you think about the situations you’ve been in during the week, so we can talk about your thoughts, evaluate them, analyze them, see if they’re helpful, see if they’re accurate, and see if there are other perspectives. I want you to also wonder about what you’re thinking and whether there are other ways of looking at it and other ways that you want to feel, so that we can determine if you’re being fair to yourself, fair to other people, or unrealistic in your expectations.

I will ask you questions, and if you have trouble thinking of things to talk about, I am going to help you with that, so you don’t have to worry about it so much. You can notice things during the week, write them down, take notes, and bring those into the therapy session, and then we can go from there. I hope this is helpful.
